We got a new OT yesterday

Finally we got Dorothy with centra pediatric therapy! She is beyond great. We feel really lucky to get her as Andre's OT.

It was just the evaluation, and we were super impressed by how good the Andre’s fine motor skill is. After the 1 hour evaluation, he had not reached the ceiling yet! He kept going on and on and on… We have to do an extended evaluation next time. Dorothy let him cut a circle and he did it successfully! This was his first time. Wow! We felt it pays back after all the effort we put it.

We did hiking today

Just a regular day today. We had OT and ST this morning. After his nap, we did hiking had dinner with a friend. After that Andre ran around on the street after the dinner, and went back home!

Hiking is very good for him. He started doing hiking about 6 or 7 months ago. I still remember he got some big gross motor improvement after the first few hikes. It was not easy for autistic kids to start the new activate as they will whine and try to escape. But hang on there, and it will pay back!

Went to Santa Monica Stepping on the Beach

We went to Santa Monica after his nap. Let him step on beach and get him more use to the crowd. Whined for sure, but he is getting better. We still used the “mixing little comfortable thing with new environment” strategy when he stepping on the sand. Kind of worked!

Touch (tactile system) is sooooo important! That’s the foundation of learning. The image below explained it. That’s why we need to spend a lot time and energy to let him get use to different textures.

Andre is getting better with the cat and sometimes likes to watch the little kitty.

晚上去santa Monica,一路跑哈哈哈,踩沙子还是叫,但是好多了。还能在湿沙滩上面用羽毛写个A。

Andre's physical therapists

Andre got diagnosed with low muscle tone in March 2018 by Dr. Bauman in Casa Colina Hospital. However we could not get any Physical Therapy services when we were under the San Gabriel/Pomona Regional center. It’s always very hard to get PT service from the regional center, even you really need it!

Below are the ones we are using right now through our own insurance. We have three physical therapists from different clinics! They work in different ways but are all great and extremely helpful.

Karen with 123 Pediatric Therapy

Karen is a great PT. She is very experienced, patient, and knowledgeable. Andre is picky about working with therapist especially when Mom and I are not with him during the therapy. He liked working with Karen from the first time even without us in the room! She worked Andre on jumping, climbing, standing on one foot, etc. I noticed my son made very good progress every single time after the therapy. She is very considerate as well, as Andre has sleeping issue and sleep very little and woke up very early from time to time. We have to do last minute cancellation for many times. But Karen is always very considerate and never charged us any cancellation fee.

Kim with Physical Therapy Specialists

Kim is so good! She got 27 years experience and her focus is on sensory integration! It’t more like a OT’s job, but she is really great at it! If your kid has sensory issue, contact Kim!

Karen with Centra Pediatric Therapy

Karen is special. She has over 30 years experience. She has been working on Andre’s muscle alignment. It’s like a massage, but so helpful! Andre got drooling issue before. Our OT said it’s because of sensory issue, and our ST said it’s because of the weak muscle of the mouth. But non of the therapy worked. After we saw Karen for 3 times, the drooling was completely gone! Karen explained it because Andre’s head and neck position is not right. That caused the drooling. The muscle alignment got him much better body gesture!
